Be even more efficient by creating and using default templates for the different types of experiments you run. They can be used to help a consistent structure to your experiment entry, on top of making it quicker to run common workflows of protocols!

Creating a new Template:

  1. Click on the cogwheel in the left-hand navigation bar

  2. Select 'Experiments'

  3. Click 'Templates'

  4. Click on 'New Template'

  5. Click on 'Untitled Template' to rename it

  6. Start editing your new template

Labstep team tip: You can manage, edit and delete your templates from the 'Experiment Templates' page. By clicking the vertical ellipsis next to a template's name, you'll be able to share, duplicate the template, create an experiment from the template, export, print, assign to, add tag(s), transfer ownership and delete it.

Creating an Experiment from a Template:

  1. Navigate to the Experiments page

  2. Click the arrow next to 'New Experiment'

  3. Click on 'From Template'

  4. Select a template

  5. Wait for your new experiment to open

  6. Start writing your experiment

Labstep team tip: You can also create a new experiment from a template from your workspace overview. Simply click on the arrow next to 'New Experiment' and then 'From Template'. The process is just the same!

Saving an Experiment as a Template:

  1. You can also save an existing experiment as a template so it can be reused.

  2. Navigate the experiment of your choice

  3. Click on the vertical ellipsis in the top right-hand corner

  4. Select 'Save as template'

  5. Wait for your new template to load

  6. That's it!

Labstep team tip: You can save an experiment as a template from the Experiments page. Just click the vertical ellipsis next to the experiment of your choice and follow the same process.

Setting a Default Template for the Workspace:

  1. Navigate to the Workspace Settings

  2. Click on the 'Experiments' tab

  3. Click on the field next to 'Default Template'

  4. Search and select the template you want to set as the default

  5. Et voilà!

Labstep team tip: Only the owner of the workspace can set a default template that will be used by default when a member creates a new experiment. If you want to set a default template for a workspace you do not own, ask the owner to either do it for you or promote you to 'Owner'. Read more on workspace permissions here.
