In this article, we outline how to set up the Device Client to upload data files generated by your devices. To see how this data can be used in your experiments see this article for more information. For more advanced device integrations, we recommend using the Python SDK (see examples here) or contact us here for assistance.

Once you are ready to set up the Device Client on the PC or Mac connected to your device:

  1. Download the latest version of the Device Client from here (PC) or here (Mac)

  2. Once installed and running you should see a window like the one below

  3. Click 'add device' to get started

  4. Next, you'll need to authenticate the Device Client with a valid Labstep API key see how to create one here

  5. Paste in your Labstep API key and hit enter

  6. Now you can select the device connected to the computer that you want to send data from. Or you can create a new one if you haven't already
The final step is to select the folder where the device outputs data to

  7. Whenever a file is saved to this folder, the Device Client detects it and will upload it to Labstep. You should see a notification pop-up if the file was uploaded successfully.

  8. If you have multiple instruments connected to the same PC saving data to different folders you can click 'add device' to watch different folders for different devices

  9. That's it!

Labstep team tip: If you're using a Mac and it is not letting you open the Labstep Folder Watcher, find out how you can override it here.
