Custom identifiers for resources work the same way as they do for experiments. They provide a unique combination of letters and numbers for each of your resources to easily identify them and sort through your Inventory.
Configuring Identifier for a Category
To set up custom identifiers for a category:
Navigate to workspace settings
Click on Inventory
Select a category of your choice
Click "Enable custom identifier"
You can then set up the custom identifier as you want.
Auto-Assigning Identifiers to New Resources
Clicking "New Resource" after selecting a category with custom identifiers will automatically assign a custom identifier to it. You can then click "add name" to add any other needed identification, such as "Ethanol".
Assigning Identifier to Existing Resources
You can also assign custom identifiers to your existing resources as long as they have been enabled and set up for the category.
To assign an identifier to an existing resource:
Navigate to the resource of your choice
Click "Assign Identifier"
Importing with Custom Identifiers
When importing your Inventory, you'll have the option to automatically assign the identifiers to the resources as long as identifiers have been enabled and set up for the category.
Additionally, if you have a column with identifiers in your spreadsheet, you can also match the column to the Resource Identifier field type and Labstep will assign the identifiers accordingly.
