# Setting up Your Labstep account

Step-by-step guide on how to create a Labstep account, set up a workspace and invite collaborators

_Welcome to Labstep! You’re just a few steps away from enjoying our intuitive R&D platform made for scientists by scientists. Ready to get started but don’t know how? No worries, simply follow the steps below and set up your Labstep account in less than 5 minutes!_

# **Create your Labstep account (Academic Users):**

1.  Sign up [here](https://app.labstep.com/signup). You can sign up with Google authentication or by entering your details.
    
2.  Create your first workspace by giving it a name.
    
3.  You are now in your Home workspace. To learn how to create another workspace, click [here](https://help.labstep.com/en/articles/3301600-workspaces.md).
    
4.  To invite your colleagues or collaborators, click on ‘Invite’ and share your workspace link.
    
5.  You can either copy the link or send it directly via email.
    
6.  Before sharing the link with someone, you can also change their workspace permission (what kind of access they have to it).
    
7.  Once you’ve invited everyone, click on ‘Send’ or the ‘x’ if you’ve copied the link.
    
8.  That’s it! You can now create your first [protocol](https://help.labstep.com/en/articles/3142376-creating-importing-and-editing-protocols.md), [experiment](https://help.labstep.com/en/articles/3853255-labstep-experiments-the-basics.md) or [item template](https://help.labstep.com/en/articles/4549805-item-templates.md) using your new Labstep account.
    

**_Labstep Team tip:_** _For added security, create a password with a minimum of 10 characters, including 1 uppercase, 1 number and 1 special symbol (e.g. £%$@#!)._
